There is a blog I really, really like about living a simple, quiet life. The author posted recently about his eating habits, which are all things I can get behind and try to do. It mostly consists of eating food that isn’t processed, very little sugar, and mostly leafy green vegetables. He ends the post with a rant against those of us who eat meat and dairy, and that’s really when he lost me. I eat meat and dairy and try as often as possible to buy free-range, grass fed products from farms with ethical practices. We are animals. We are omnivores. Omnivores eat meat. Get over it.
Annoying vegan story #2: I am Facebook friends with two vegans who love telling everyone how vegan they are. One of them is going on a road trip and asked for restaurant suggestions, with the ALL CAPS caveat not to give her any suggestions if you are not a vegan. Because clearly, if you eat meat and/or dairy, you couldn’t possibly have any recommendations for vegan eating. She didn’t say not to give suggestions of restaurants that aren’t vegan; she said do not give suggestions if you are not a vegan. This is why Mark Zuckerberg created unfriending.
That being said, I’ve known several very pleasant and wonderful vegans and vegetarians. So don’t think I’m just a hater.
